Stilltale End-User License Agreement (EULA)

Version 1.0 — Effective August 11, 2026

By using the Stilltale software (the "Software"), you agree to be bound by this Agreement.

1. Definitions

Software: the Stilltale application and its accompanying files.
Output: works you create and export with the Software (HTML files, images, etc.).
Viewer Runtime: the viewing code and styles embedded in Output (code derived from viewer.js / viewer.css, etc.).
Pro License Key: a paid digital key that unlocks certain features.

2. License Grant

You are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free license to install and use the Software on any number of your own devices, subject to this Agreement.

3. Pro Features

A Pro License Key is licensed to the single named individual identified in the key (the "Named User"). The Named User may use Pro features on any number of devices under their sole control.
Use of Pro features within a company or other organization requires one key per individual user.
Sharing, transferring, reselling, or publishing keys, and circumventing or disabling key verification by technical means, are prohibited.
Rights under Section 4 in Output created using Pro features survive regardless of the status or termination of the Pro license.

4. Ownership of Output and Runtime Redistribution

You own the copyright in your Output. The developer claims no rights in your Output. You may use, reproduce, modify, distribute, publicly transmit, and sell Output freely, commercially or otherwise.
You are granted a royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual license to reproduce, distribute, and publicly transmit the Viewer Runtime embedded in your Output, as part of that Output. This right applies to all users, Free and Pro alike.
You may not extract the Viewer Runtime from Output for standalone reuse or redistribution.
Third-party materials contained in Output (such as font data) remain subject to their respective licenses (see the license notices inside the Output).

5. Restrictions

You may not: (a) redistribute, lend, or resell the Software; (b) modify, adapt, or create derivative works of the Software; (c) reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law; (d) circumvent or remove mechanisms related to Pro feature verification or attribution display.

Nothing in this Section limits your use of Output under Section 4.

6. Third-Party Software and Materials

The Software includes the following third-party materials, which are governed by their own licenses rather than this Agreement.

Open-source software: listed in the in-app About dialog and in the bundled THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt.
Bundled fonts: the Software bundles fonts licensed under the SIL Open Font License, CC0, or individual permission from their respective authors. Each font's license document is bundled with the Software and can be viewed from the in-app font management screen. Your rights and obligations regarding those fonts, including when embedding them in Output for distribution, are governed by the license of the font in question.

7. No Warranty; Limitation of Liability

The Software is provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer shall not be liable for any damages arising out of the use of, or inability to use, the Software.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, the exclusions in this Section do not apply to damages caused by the developer's intent or gross negligence, or in any case where the exclusion of liability is not permitted under the Japanese Consumer Contract Act or other mandatory law.

You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of data created with the Software.

8. Termination

This license terminates automatically upon your breach of this Agreement. Upon termination, you must stop using the Software and destroy all copies. Runtime rights for Output already distributed under Section 4 survive termination.

9. Governing Law

This Agreement is governed by the laws of Japan. If any provision is held invalid, the remaining provisions remain in effect.

10. Amendments

The developer may amend this Agreement. An amended Agreement takes effect upon posting at https://stilltale.com, and your continued use of the Software after that time constitutes acceptance of the amendment.

However, the scope of the license granted by a Pro License Key obtained before an amendment, and the rights under Section 4 in Output already distributed, will not be retroactively restricted by any amendment.
